January/February 2026 Newsletter

COLD COLD COLD

Winter came early this year and there was no signs of slowing down in January.  We faced many days of bitter cold by starting and ending the month in below -20 C.  Although we did receive a day of 10C on January 9th, it was overall a cold month with multiple indoor recess days.

Liam Foundation
On January 28, 2026, Harmony students were privileged to hear a presentation from Kevin of the Liam Foundation.  The presentation was full of heart felt moments, demonstrations of dedication, and calls to action.  Our student learned about the amazing life that Liam has led so far living with Mito-disease and the one that he will have because his dad continues to fight for the cure.  It gave our students an opportunity to reflect on their roles in making the world a better place and the legacies that they will leave.  Harmony used several initiatives over the the months of January and February to raised well over $800 for the foundation.   Harmony never fails to show how we can care for others.

100th day of school celebration.  On February 13th, Harmony celebrated the 100 days of school (half-way point).  Many students took the opportunity to dress up as old-timers and they looked terrific.

Staff appreciation week (February 9-13).  With many thanks to the Harmony PPO, the staff were treated to lunches, gifts, wish list items, treats, oh my.  We are truly spoiled by all the attention.  We love working with our community are grateful for all of you.  Also a huge thank you to all who donated the wonderful items to complete the teacher wish lists.

Winter Olympics
The Olympics always brings about a celebration like no other.  Harmony took this opportunity to celebrate the successes of not only Canadians but participants from all nations.  With door decorations, medal counts on display, Ms. Naps’ Olympic days, and televisions consistently showing the games, the school had an energetic vibe for the duration of the sporting event.  We were even able to get in, with the help of PPO, a curling company to do land curling in the gymnasium with our students.  Sports has a unique ability to unify people and we wanted our students to experience that.

Valentines Day was special as always at Harmony.  Students had the opportunity to buy candy-grams (Organized by Mr. Flanagan and the student council) with the money going towards the Liam Foundation.  On Valentines’ day itself, these surprise gifts were delivered with smiles.

Term 2 report card and parent-teacher interviews.
Report cards were produced on February 16th and parent-teacher interviews were held on February 19th and 20th.  Both days were well attended as many valuable discussions were held about promoting student success.

SPIRIT WEEK
The Harmony tradition of Spirit week was again a huge success.  Students participated in a staff vs student basketball game, school wide Conga line, various themed dress code days, BHM presentations, Crafts, rock paper scissors competition, class art murals, and movie day.  This was a great way to start preparing for the March Break.

There were also many classroom projects, too many to list here but I invite you to please make visit the Harmony Facebook page to see all the wonderful pictures and event recaps.
